Photography

Macro and landscape photography stand out to me as a medium for conveying meaning and emotion. The ability to transform such images into surreal, abstract, and otherworldly scenes is what motivates me as a photographer.

My philosophy is that color is the basis for our perception of the world. Grass is green; the sky is blue; clouds are white. By manipulating color, I seek to create something more than a depiction of reality.

My goal is turn the ordinary into another world.

About Me

For six years, I studied and did research in computer science. My areas included computer graphics, user interfaces/interaction, programming languages, API design, and machine learning. All the while, my interest in photography grew from curiosity, to adding a minor during undergrad, to starting a side business, and ultimately to dropping everything in the middle of my PhD to pursue photography. Since then, I’ve also pursued various endeavors including writing, independent research projects, and addressing governments on youth issues.

Currently, I live and work in Iceland where I pursue my passions and interests. I study and teach Icelandic; I run a weekly writing group and a biweekly reading group; I participate in a weekly philosophy group, a weekly Icelandic-language group, and monthly poetry readings; I am also in the process of establishing an artist collective and opening an art gallery. Additionally, I am a rare, Icelandic book collector.

Education

I attended Andrews University for undergrad (2017-2021) where I double majored in Computer Science & Mathematical Studies with a Photography minor.

Following undergrad, I attended the University of Utah where I began my PhD in Computer Graphics.

Informally, I study the Icelandic, Russian, and Finnish languages in addition to an informal education in Iceland — everything from its history to geology — via my work at a museum where I live in Reykjavík. I am also “tutored” in Scandinavian studies.
