The stories were often told as if they were real. It feels like reading non-fiction. The downside of that is the loss of meaning in the stories, so much is presented as fact which can be interesting but not necessarily engaging.

It reminds me of The Fifth Science in the sense of going too far with ideas rather than the stories themselves. At least the ideas in Ficciones were mostly interesting. But I can’t say I enjoyed the book very much. Nor did I really take anything away from it.
