A number of dialogue exchanges and paragraphs were blatantly for the sole purpose of explanation or elaboration. The first half of the book is good, then it falls into the trap of "this happens, then that happens, then this happens," etc. The story was interesting, at least. But everything started feeling forced. Not to mention the cartoonish plot devolution.
