The dialogue has great ideas, but everything feels a bit "loose". Nothing is necessarily bad, rather it's lacking the focus of the later Notes From Underground while portraying, to an extent, the same character.
The story is alright, maybe a bit cliche. Much of it is left to interpretation while themes of submitting to higher political authorities are prevalent. Dostoevsky still does a great job of elucidating the character's inner world.
